Four unforgettable destinations. One epic day. Discover why Southern Albania has become one of Europe’s most talked-about escapes — paddle Europe’s last wild river, stand before the hypnotic Blue Eye spring, wander Saranda’s palm-lined seafront, and sink your toes into the white sand of Ksamil, the “Maldives of Europe.” This is the ultimate introduction to the Albanian Riviera, all in a single, expertly guided day.
Saranda is 4.5–5 hours south of Tirana. That’s not a detail — it’s the defining fact of this tour. A same-day return means leaving at 05:00 and getting home near midnight, with a lot of the day spent in a comfortable seat watching Albania go past the window.
For most visitors that trade is worth it: you see four of the country’s signature places without booking hotels, changing plans or renting a car. But if you have three or more days and dislike long drives, the genuinely better option is to base yourself in Saranda for two nights and take your time. We’d rather tell you that now than have you find out at 23:30. If the long day suits you, it’s one of the best value days in the Balkans.
Leaving Tirana, Durrës and the coastal towns behind, the landscape unfolds into rolling hills, fertile valleys and dramatic mountains. Your guide brings Albania to life along the way with stories of its culture, history and traditions.
Vjosa River — Your first stop is Europe’s last major free-flowing river, protected as a Wild River National Park. Guided by experienced local professionals, you’ll enjoy a rafting or river experience designed to be safe, fun and beginner-friendly, surrounded by crystal-clear water and mountain scenery found nowhere else on the continent.
The Blue Eye — After changing into dry clothes, we continue to one of Albania’s most famous natural wonders. Hidden beneath a lush forest, the Blue Eye glows a brilliant sapphire, its icy water flowing endlessly from deep underground. Walk the shaded forest paths, take unforgettable photos, and hear the legends behind this natural marvel. Note: swimming in the Blue Eye is prohibited to protect the spring, and this is enforced in high season — the swimming happens at Ksamil and on the Vjosa.
Saranda — Next, the lively capital of the Albanian Riviera. Stroll the palm-lined promenade, savour fresh seafood or authentic Albanian cuisine at a seaside restaurant, and soak up the Mediterranean energy with the Greek island of Corfu on the horizon.
Ksamil — The grand finale. Famous for turquoise water, soft white sand and tiny islands you can swim or paddle to, Ksamil is one of the most photographed spots in the Balkans. Swim, relax, and watch the day melt into gold before the comfortable journey home.
(Subject to traffic, weather and seasonal conditions.)
Can you visit the Blue Eye, Saranda and Ksamil in one day from Tirana?
Yes — with an early start and organised transport. Saranda is 4.5–5 hours south of Tirana, so a same-day return means a 05:00 departure and a near-midnight return. If you have three or more days, basing yourself in Saranda for two nights is the more relaxed option.
What is the Blue Eye in Albania?
The Blue Eye (Syri i Kaltër) is a natural spring near Saranda where water bubbles up from over 50 metres underground in an impossibly blue pool surrounded by forest. The water stays around 10°C year-round.
Can you swim in the Blue Eye?
No — swimming is prohibited to protect the spring and is enforced in high season. You’ll swim at Ksamil and on the Vjosa instead.
Is Ksamil worth visiting?
Yes — white sand, turquoise water and tiny swimmable islands. Be aware it’s very busy in July and August and most of the beach is privately operated with paid sunbeds.
Is Vjosa River rafting suitable for beginners?
Yes — designed for total beginners, guided by experienced local professionals in Europe’s first Wild River National Park. Safety briefing and equipment provided.
Please note: the pickup time you select is an estimate. Your driver may arrive up to 15 minutes before or after due to traffic and the number of pickup locations. Your guide will confirm exact details one day before your tour.
Journey into the Albanian Alps for a spectacular Komani Lake boat ride and the turquoise waters of Shala River — the ‘Thailand of Albania.’
Hike the Gamti Mountain trail and enjoy breathtaking panoramic views over the turquoise Bovilla Lake, just outside Tirana. A perfect half-day nature adventure.
Discover Divjaka-Karavasta National Park — Albania’s largest lagoon, home to rare Dalmatian pelicans, pine forests and a peaceful Adriatic coastline.
