Albania’s capital is one of Europe’s most underrated city breaks — colourful, affordable, buzzing with cafés, and packed with history. Here’s how to spend three perfect days in Tirana, with easy escapes built in.
Day 1: The heart of the city
Start at Skanderbeg Square, the vast central plaza. Visit the National History Museum, climb the Et’hem Bey Mosque’s neighbouring clock tower, then explore the pastel-painted Blloku district for lunch and coffee. In the afternoon, dig into recent history at Bunk’Art, a Cold War bunker turned museum.
Day 2: Views and nature
Take the Dajti Express cable car up Mount Dajti for panoramic views over the city and a cooler mountain atmosphere. Back in town, stroll the Grand Park and Artificial Lake, then enjoy Tirana’s excellent food scene in the evening.
Day 3: A day trip
With the city explored, head out. The most popular choice is a day trip to Berat, the UNESCO “City of a Thousand Windows,” or a nature escape to Bovilla Lake. Both are easy full-day trips with hotel pickup.
Where to stay
Base yourself near Blloku or the centre for walkable access to restaurants, cafés and sights. Tirana is compact, safe and very affordable.
