Short answer: There is no direct bus from Tirana to Ksamil. You take a long coach to Saranda (about 4.5–5 hours, roughly €16–17, around 10 departures a day), then a cheap frequent local bus for the final 17 km to Ksamil (about €1.50). Total by bus is 6–8 hours realistically. Driving takes about 5–5.5 hours. The single thing that catches people out is the bus terminal — southbound buses leave from a terminal 25 minutes northwest of central Tirana, not from the centre.
The one thing that derails this trip
It has nothing to do with the timetable. It is the terminal.
Buses south do not leave from anywhere near Skanderbeg Square. They go from the South & North Bus Terminal (Terminali i Autobusave të Jugut dhe Veriut), near the Casa Italia outlet, about 25 minutes northwest of the centre. Travellers who only discover this on the morning of travel routinely watch their bus pull away without them.
To reach the terminal from central Tirana: a municipal bus toward Kamëz (about 40 lek), or a taxi (roughly €12–15). From the airport, a taxi is around €10–15. Build this leg into your timing — it is the step everyone forgets.
Getting to Saranda (the long leg)
This is the mission-critical part. There are around 10 direct coaches a day, run mostly by Tisa Travel, with the first around 05:30 and the last as late as 22:00.

- Time: around 4h 15m on the fastest services, averaging closer to 4h 45m–5h with stops and traffic
- Cost: roughly €16–17
These times shift with season and demand. Reconfirm the day before — Albanian intercity schedules are not fixed in stone, and the exact timetable varies by operator and day.
Getting from Saranda to Ksamil (the short leg)
Once in Saranda, the last 17 km to Ksamil is easy. Local buses run frequently along the coastal road, stopping in Ksamil, and cost around 150 lek (€1.50). They run all summer.
If you arrive late, have heavy bags, or just want the hotel sorted without fuss, a taxi from Saranda to Ksamil is around 2,500 lek. That is the comfort upgrade to consider — otherwise the local bus is genuinely fine.
Think of it as two trips, not one. People who plan it as a single seamless ride mistime the Saranda handoff. Plan it as two legs and it is cheap and simple.
The options compared
- Bus + bus — cheapest by far, around €18–20 total. Budget 6–8 hours door to door. The value play if you have schedule slack.

- Private transfer — around 4–5 hours, door to door, no terminal hassle. Expensive (a private taxi runs well over €140, since the driver has to return to Tirana), but the least stressful if you are a family with luggage.
The scenic alternative: the coastal route
If you are driving and have the time, skip the fast inland road and take the coastal route: SH4 to Fier, SH8 to Vlora, over (or through) the Llogara Pass, then down the Riviera through Dhërmi, Himara and Borsh before turning inland to Saranda. It adds 1–2 hours but turns the drive into the best part of the trip. The Llogara Pass alone is worth it.
What about Bolt or Uber?
Fine within Tirana, not for this. Ride-hailing apps are unreliable and not cost-effective for a journey this long. Don’t plan around them for the trip south.
